DAK (Dennis) started Decks by DAK over 30 years ago and has always focused on his customers. Hilda has been steering the ship and keeping the business growing. Tim Kidd has been helping with the family business since he was 14 years old. He credits acquiring the necessary skills to manage the business from Virginia Tech's Corps of Cadets which he earned a full ride scholarship for.
Just about any carpenter can put together a deck. The key, however, is whether the deck blends in and enhances the function and appearance of your home. Secondly, and just as important, is the quality of materials and knowledge of the individuals building the deck. Dennis Kidd and the Decks by DAK construction team did an outstanding job building our upgraded TREX deck. Dennis Kidd provided expert advice in the design process and his team were professional in every respect from teardown to construction to ensuring no detail was missed. I was particularly impressed by the use of #1 Grade lumber for all the framing and stair stringers. Highly recommend!

I am hoping this company is better at building then driving. Company truck behind me was beeping because I would not go on a caution light until I was sure the cars going the other direction were stopping. Then once on the interstate did well above the speed limit. Not a good way to impress me. Your vehicle is doing your advertising. That would be a no for me.

Dennis Kidd's Dak Construction just completed installing a Trex deck and railing system as a replacement for our existing deck. Throughout the process, Dennis and his crew, especially Holmes and Jimmy, were terrific to work with and highly professional in all respects. They always came to the job site on schedule and left the site as clean as they found it.
They worked in a most meticulous and skillful manner. We now have a deck of which we are extremely proud and would highly recommend Dennis' firm for any construction project.

We turned our porch renovation over to Dennis Kidd, who in our absence completed the job professionally and on time. We couldn't be more pleased with the results and the materials he used. This is our second project with Dennis. He is honest, very skilled, and delivered an excellent glassed- in porch. We highly recommend him to anyone who wants a quality product.

Dennis worked with our landscaper (Snow's Nursery) to build a custom designed deck project that integrated with the landscaping plan. He built a large screened in deck (pine roof / mahogany floor) and an open deck utilizing Trex planking. It is absolutely gorgeous and will be for a long time. We looked around and DAK is the highest quality builder in the greater Charlottesville area.
He also brought in a high quality electrician to install our fan/light fixture and outlets both inside and outside. We could not have been happier with the project and have received numerous compliments from our guests.

In 2015, we contacted 4 deck companies to solicit bids on replacing two decks (one very large deck, one small deck). Dennis Kidd's bid was by far the best price for the highest quality - and his reviews on Angie's list were all 5's. Dennis gave us excellent suggestions, to include the trex decking, the configuration and the sub-structure. His workers were the best workers we've ever had in 30 years of household projects.
They were meticulous in their work and made sure every detail was exact, and they were great people too. We could not be more pleased with the work and the final result. We were so pleased we hired DAK construction for several other major projects, and every project was exceptional.

Though I have no experience with their decks, having found ther truck parked in an incredibly poor and inconsiderate manner, and having contacted them letting them know of the problem, the personal response I got was to essentially "get over it. " Any business owner who treats someone like this, doesn't deserve the consideration of future customers.
If the situation had been handled differently, and owner taken responsibility, it would have shown consideration for others, and the willingness to rectify a poor decision. Won't ever use them.
