I needed a new vanity installed in the upstairs bathroom and a water line run for the refrigerator. Melvin Dickson came out to do the work. He was very professional and knowledgeable. He did not let the problems of an older home stop him. He had to create a way to connect three types of pipes together since there wasn't a valve available.
The reviews posted below are from actual Stemmle customers that participated in an independent survey about our services. Extremely surprised by how much I was charged by this company. I had called them to get an estimate for a job installing a sink in an area that has no existing plumbing. I was upfront about this in my call to schedule the appointment and mentioned that I wasn't even sure if it was possible to add a sink there, but wanted their opinion. After telling her this, I was warned by the representative that there was a $79 dispatch fee regardless if if they do any work, which I figured was fine considering they had to come out to the site and whatnot and should be paid for that time.
The 2 techs arrive a few days later and spend less than 15 minutes on site. One gets on a ladder and looks in my ceiling. I am told there's no way to install a sink. Okay, cool, got the advice I was looking for. However, it comes time to pay at the end of the service, and he tells me it is actually $210. He claims that yes, I have to pay the dispatch fee, but also a $129 "diagnostic fee" for him telling me he couldn't do anything because the plumbing wasn't accessable to the area I wanted a sink in.
I was quite shocked that considering I specifically mentioned this info when scheduling, I was being charged triple what I was warned I would be paying. What's worse, I had a second company come out a few days later, they did not charge me this "diagnostic fee" and they gave me options for how to get plumbing access into the space the first techs never mentioned.
Really disappointed at what felt like a cash grab experience by two guys who likely thought, and I guess were correct, in that they could get away with scamming a young woman with no plumbing experience who was just looking for some professional help.

I've been waiting almost a month for a very simple quote and follow up on a sewer line replacement. I've called three times and each time assured they would 'get back to me this week.' Furthermore, the $79 "Diagnostic Service" the plumber was supposed to perform was completely superficial. He claimed my sewer line was at least 6' down, by measuring the depth of the CITY's drainage lines on the street.
That took him about 4 minutes. I asked him repeatedly to look at the actual pipe, since it's easy to see in my basement, and any fool with a tape measure can see that it exits the home's foundation at a depth between 3'10" and 4'2" I really wanted to use this company because the two (obviously younger and lower ranking) plumbers who helped me unclog the sewer line last year were really nice, knew the work very well and performed it with excellence. - this would be a 1 star review without them.
I've done the augur work myself several times on this problematic sewer line and it was obvious they knew what they were doing. This other guy, not so much. If you don't want the job, just say so and don't take $79 from someone under false pretenses. I honestly would have accepted any reasonable quote from these people because my first experience was great, but being ghosted by them cost me money and A LOT of time that I didn't have. Including the time to write this review. Consumers, if you're lucky enough to get the people who can actually do the work, this is a good company.

After dealing with a plumbing issue all day we finally decided to call Stemmle Plumbing. I was referred to them with rave reviews from a friend. Josh B was dispatched to our home and I'm so thankful he was able to fix our plumbing issue and toilet. He was at our home within a hour of calling. I wish I could give more stars! Thank you! They are great, after James River dropped the ball and wouldn't even communicate with me about what was happening, one call to Stemmle I had someone coming to help fix my Water Heater within a few hours. I think it's pathetic that we need to praise companies for doing their jobs in this day and age BUT I do want to thank Stemmle for such a quick response and the professional nature that their crews demonstrated on site. I'll be sure to keep coming back that level of above and beyond is why I'm leaving five stars.

Technicians Austin Cloninger and Aaron Hutchinson has been out to Sussex State Prison multiple times to assist with the unstopping of drains at both prisons and has done an excellent job at solving the issues that we face. These guys perform at a high level and always courteous and professional and get the job done. We appreciate them coming here and recommend their services. Sincerely, Glen Tyler, Plumber

Jorge came out to pump my system today and did a fantastic job. He was thorough and professional. He detected an issue with my pump and worked with his team to try and resolve it, and helped make sure I was scheduled for a pump technician to come out when the problems persisted. It was a pleasure having him come out and assist me. Service: Sewer cleaning

Today started out being terrible. The tenants in my rental house in Richmond called and said that there was a terrible smell in the house. It seemed to be coming out of a drain in the laundry. It really was bad. I had used Stemmle Plumbing before to fix a problem with the dishwashing and some pipes in the kitchen. I called them, and they were able to get some guys out the same day. Josh Bowen was the best!
The problem was complicated. My house was built around 1947 and I thought was in fairly good shape (ha ha), but it wasn't. His excellent assistant, Brent Landrum, and he went under the house, which has a very small crawl space, and discovered to my shock, that several old pipes that carried waste from the kitchen sink, dishwasher, bathroom, etc. had cracks and had been draining for a long time under the house.
There was water, waste and even maggots (ugh).Plus, there was so much gunk-like build up in the existing pipes that not much could even get to the city waste connection. It was like a horror story to me. They replaced the broken pipes and connectors and THEN discovered there was also a gas leak in one of the heating pipes. Seriously. He asked me to call the City to report a gas leak.
In the meantime, Mr. Landrum turned off the gas in the house and capped the leaking pipes. I informed the tenants, additional plans were made and all will soon be well in my world! These guys do excellent work, and Stemmle Plumbing Repair is excellent. I can highly recommend them.

My appointment was scheduled for 10-2. After waiting for four hours and fifteen minutes for this company to arrive as promised, I called the main line. I was told they were hung up on another job and MIGHT be at my home within two hours! Apparently giving me a call to let me know was too much to ask. I know times are hard right now as far as having enough help etc. but this was a ridiculous waste of my time.

I worked at Stemmle for five years. Was let go this morning after refusing to drive at 3am and offering to come at 7am. They considered this action "gross misconduct." Gross Misconduct as defined in Virginia law is any unethical and unprofessional behavior an employee engages in. I had already worked 13hrs that same day and didn't feel safe driving. (They just had a technician total a van a few weeks ago at night, on call. It's still sitting in the lot and has been a reminder of why safety and clarity of mind is important). When I told my supervisor this he said "well I need this customer taken care of." Honorable on one hand, horribly negligent on another.
I suggested having a night shift about a year ago. That way the customers will have a coherent and friendly plumber, fully capable of performing his duties. Not half asleep and making rushed decisions. Other companies have this system and it is based on reason, both ethical and professional. When I first started, I had no problem working 80hrs/week.
I made the most money I ever made that year as a plumber. One time I worked 32 hrs straight. This is a wonderful place to work if you are a working man without a family. You can get all kinds of overtime and they overlook whatever unhealthy personal habits you have, as long as you make them money. It is not a place to grow as a plumber, electrician, or hvac technician.
Not one supervisor has their Master's license and their knowledge is limited to their experience in the field, which is also limited. There is no in-house training or ongoing education in place. This is not a review of their workmanship, although these things do negatively affect the growth and mindset of technicians. This is a review of the values and moral obligations to provide a safe working environment for the men and women who are employed there still, and who may be seeking employment at this establishment in the future. I'm not bitter or angry with the company and only want to see them prosper and grow in the right direction.
I love all my former co-workers and shook everyone's hands when I left today. I did what I could to help the whole while I worked there. Everything that I have written, to the best of my knowledge is true and without exaggeration. Before I knew I was going to be let go this morning, I changed the quote on an inspiration board I hung for the guys and myself. "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." -Albert Einstein

Technician Mike M. came to our rescue today! Had our septic tank backing up into the parking lot and he handled it quickly and professionally. He provided us with the proper commercial maintenance materials and a recommended maintenance schedule to help us keep our system running at peak performance. Will definitely ask for Mike in the future!

Critical: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness Please do not advertise "emergency service available" when you do not actually offer this service. Both your website and your phone system advertises this. However when I had sewage backing up into my home on Christmas Eve I was told it would take a week to get here and that emergency service was not something that you provide.

On a cold and rainy December night the Stemmle family came to the rescue. After 2 days without water at our house, with family members coming in town for Christmas, my wife inadvertently contacted a clearly inferior company to fix our water main leak. After 2 days of frustration I reached out to Tracey and John and they immediately had two techs Cameron Tingley and Josh Bowen at my house within an hour and had our issue fixed correctly.
Their professionalism, timeliness and knowledge was second to none. In the pouring rain, cold temperatures, at 8pm on a Friday night, they fixed our issue and left our yard looking like nothing had happened. I can't say enough about the quality of this company and the people they have working for them. 5-Stars, I would recommend Stemmle to anyone and did at the Christmas party we were able to attend next door, all because of speed and quality of their work. Thank you excellent service!

What surprised and impressed me the most was how the entire crew was both highly professional and a pleasure to work with. Didn't matter if it was a guy shoveling dirt or pumping out my septic, I was impressed by their knowledge, customer service and taking care of our needs even during late hours and weekends. They did a great job fixing my 30 year old septic system and corrected past sins by doing the job right.

I contacted Stemmle for my shower slow drain. A technician (Stanley) informed me he needed to replace a gasket. This service was on the Friday before Thanksgiving. He did not have the gasket needed in his truck. Informed me someone will call to schedule a time to come back out. I did receive a call and set a day and time to replace the gasket. No one showed up at the scheduled time or even called to follow up or reschedule. But had no problem cashing my check. Very unprofessional

Had a great experience with Jason from Stemmle! Our kitchen sink backed up and clogged on a Saturday afternoon and just a few hours later, Jason came over and fixed the sink for us! Every other "emergency" plumber we contacted was either unavailable for a few weeks, or the earliest they could stop by was first thing next week. We didn't want to go the whole weekend not being able to use our kitchen! We're super thankful to have Stemmle respond so quickly and help us out of the pickle. Jason was very nice and professional and helpful!

I'll start off by all the negative reviews and sorry they had a bad experience. I however, had an excellent experience. They called ahead of time the day of service and notified how soon the driver would be at my location. The service fee to come out is 79.00 which was told to me over the phone before I decided to have them come out. They worked with my on payment too.
The service was thorough, and they listened to my questions and answered /explained if I had concerns. They job area was cleaned after work and they wore masks because of the CoViD-19 time and expressed they had had their shots as well. I've called them from a distribution box that's wasn't sealed on my my house being built in 1958 to just basic hearing of constant water running and I needed it checked. I've had them come out for major to basic work m, and have been impressed both times. Timeframe of work 2019-2021. Hope this helps

My sink was clogged and drain-o/hot water/baking soda did not help the situation. I decided to try out Stemmle Plumbing Repair since they were listed in my building's move-in resource packet. I appreciated how my call was picked up within a short amount of waiting time and I was able to schedule an in-person visit the next day during 1-4pm. However, because the dispatch team has different tasks at different locations, they call you an hour before hand to let them know they are on the way.
This makes it difficult to precisely time when you have to be at home to let them in, especially for busy people like me with packed schedules during work hours. When Stephen and his teammate arrived, they were very nice and honored my request of wearing shoe covers inside my place. After assessing the situation, Stephen reported the dispatch fee of $79 as well as the price to fix the sink.
He gave me some time to think about it and didn't pressure me in any way. I decided to proceed and Stephen quickly fixed my sink issue! He also double checked to make sure the situation was really fixed before leaving. I also really really appreciated how he even gave me some insider tips to help prevent the situation! When it came to paying, I felt that the price to fix my small sink problem was a little expensive (considering how minor/quick of a fix it was) and I was annoyed at how the dispatcher didn't tell us the exact dispatch fee.
They take credit cards and gave me a receipt with the assessment/solution written out. Overall I enjoyed interacting the dispatch staff and appreciated their help, but felt that prices were a little high and timing can be inconvenient.

I have changed out over 30 faucets in my lifetime.had up to 14 rentals at one time. Due to age now.have vertigo and tried several times to change my kitchen sink faucet.couldnt due it because after 6-8 seconds looking up into connection area would get dizzy and sick to my stomach. Decided to get a plumber to do it. called Stemmle and waited 4 hours and 20 minutes for arrival.(daytime).
I could get price on phone because they said all jobs are different. Turns out they charged me $311.00 for 32 minutes of total time at my house. paid it.but will NEVER call them again. Total rip off.

DO NOT USE THEM FOR EMERGENCY SERVICE! We had a plumbing emergency and they had to come out THREE separate times over the next 12 hours due to negligence on the part of the technician. Even though it wasn't fixed until the next day they still charged us almost $200 just for an emergency fee. We attempted contacting the owner to ask them to make it right, but they just ignored us and never called us back.
We continued to call until we finally got through and they refused to do anything to satisfy us. We will be spreading the word about this negligent service as well as failure to stand behind their service.

I called for emergency services yesterday and was told I'd get a call back. After a few hours, I called again since I hadn't heard back, and was hung up on. I thought it was an accident so I called back and was hung up on again, for a total of four times! And today I get a follow up call from stemmle to see if someone ever called me back.
I informed the woman that I had been hung up on and she didn't acknowledge or address it. All she was interested in was knowing if I still needed service. What?!?! Why would I want to be treated like carp and then want to pay you for it? This place sucks on customer service!

I can't say enough about how happy I am with the service provided by Stemmle Plumbing. I had a blocked drain line that I had reported to my home warranty to resolve. Three different plumbers were dispatched who either misdiagnosed or could not repair the problem. I was referred to Stemmle by a coworker. They responded quickly and correctly determined the cause and fixed it.
The two techs that were sent to my home were professional, courteous, and friendly. When the work was completed, they explained everything that was done and left no evidence of their work aside from working plumbing. My only regret is that I did not call them first and save myself a lot of money and aggravation.
