A. This a tougher question than it sounds. The quick simple answer is: The National Fire Protection Association standard 211 says, Chimneys, fireplaces, and vents shall be inspected at least once a year for soundness, freedom from deposits, and correct clearances. Cleaning, maintenance, and repairs shall be done if necessary.

I wanted to be able to give this company 5 stars like I'd like to give every company I work with but when a company doesn't show up for an appt and then doesn't return calls they get 1 star

This is our 3rd experience with Top Hat over about 7 years. Every time Hartley and his team are communicative I get a call the morning of a service with a 2 hour window of arrival- and they ALWAYS arrive in that window. They are professional- floor covers, vacuuming around the fire box before leaving, and in these COVID days masked from start to finish.

They CARE- today Brock wouldn't leave before ensuring our firebox was in top shape- even getting his ladder back out to inspect a potential issue and FIXING it! Every time we have an interaction with this company we are impressed. Thank you Hartley and Brock we will ONLY use Top Hat Chimney Sweep and Repair!

I am a Realtor and have used this company many times! The owner has done all the jobs himself, he provided written bids on site and explained to my clients the options each time. Highly recommended! On time and NONE of the contractor problems such as late, no shows, increasing bids, poor work etc. Service: Chimney fan installation

We were buying a home. They were paid to come out and inspect and certify the fireplaces. They did so they said. Come to find out that both fire places are not up to code, both are not usable and when I confronted them about it they told me at the time they were safe. We have only own the house for 3 months. They lied to the seller, lied to me and my family. Now in order to get both in working order, to code and safe, we have to spend 12K in chimney repairs. DO NOT USE THEM. No integrity!

I called on a Sunday and expected to get the answering service, instead I got a live answer. We were able to set up a time for a chimney sweep and inspection which I was overdue for. Brock is the technician that arrived and did the cleaning. He was within the time frame scheduled, thorough, and very congenial.the entire process took about an hour.

It was about thirty dollars more than the last company that I used but that has been a couple years ago so prices may have gone up. All in all, I am very satisfied with the service and plan to hire them again when I need another sweep and inspection. My only quibble is that they did not, in fact, wear a top hat.

Owner loves creating drama with clients. Owner kept giving timelines for an estimate and flaking out on doing the estimate. He ended up yelling at me for being pushy after about the third time he flaked out. Worst experience I've ever had with a contractor. 100% not recommended. I would give 0 stars if I could.

When I first called for a quote the lau on the other end was very helpful, even though I wasn't on par with the industry jargon. When they came out they were on time and made quick work of my two chimneys. They also sealed a few cracks I didn't realize were there for no extra charge.

My experience with company started out with a phone call to the business, an appointment was set about 2 weeks out. The day of the appointment the man called saying was running about 15 min. late. He arrived close to the time he said. I attempted to ask some questions, he said most of my questions would be answered after he cleaned, inspected and installed the cap (this was discussed during the initial ) phone call.

I found the man to be short and acted as if he was irritated by my questions. When it was time to go over his inspection that was crazy because some of the items he said needed repairs I could not wrap my head around it because he would start using these ridiculous analogies to explain his point. I would not recommend this nut. Also he did not clean out the ash box outside the house, he said nobody does.

I paid him for cleaning and the inspection which was165. The rest of the repair he suggested would have been an additional $900. and if I wanted any service done separately-it would be higher because the quote is a package deal price

I would NOT recommend this company. I called on 2/8, spoke to the owner, and scheduled an appointment for 2/9 between 3pm and 5pm. The appointment was for a chimney cleaning and inspection, as I'm in the process of selling my house and it is required for closing. About 15 minutes after making the appointment, I got a call back from the owner telling me he needed to reschedule because his service vehicle broke down a few days prior, and he had to purchase a new vehicle and it wouldn't be ready until 2/11, so we rescheduled for 2/11 between 3pm to 5pm. (why would you schedule an appointment for the next day if you knew you wouldn't have a vehicle for a few days? but anyways, no big deal, we reschedule) I have already vacated my house, and am living approximately 2 hours away, which I discussed with the owner when I scheduled the appointment.

The morning of the appointment, 2/11, I got a call from the owner confirming our appointment time, and again we discussed how far away I was coming from. I arrived at my house approximately 15 minutes before the appointment, and ended up waiting for close to 3 hours for them to show up, which they never did. I finally called the owner to find out why he didn't show up, and he proceeded to tell me, very unapologetically, that he locked his keys in his vehicle earlier in the day, and because of that he was 3 hours behind, and he would need to reschedule my appointment for another day. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?

I just drove 2 hours to get to this appointment, and I've been waiting for almost 3 hours just for you to reschedule me AGAIN? As a supposedly professional business, why didn't you contact me to let me know you were 3 hours behind schedule as soon as you knew you'd be late? Maybe I could have saved myself the trip! Had I not called, who know when, or if, I would have been notified.

How inconsiderate and unprofessional. An upstanding, reputable company wouldn't conduct business like this. Needless to say, I declined having my time wasted again and took my business elsewhere.
