Ahhh, the "R" word. Renovate. For some families it conjures up visions of dust, delays and dollars and dollars over budget. Not here! We keep things neat and tidy. On schedule as best as possible. And definitely within the agreed upon budget for the defined scope of work. You'll get it in writing. And we'll make sure we stick to it.
Whether it's exterior rot from water or pests, or interior damage from leaks, settling or structural issues, (or "other" contractors!) we're here to help. We're expert at making quality, long-lasting repairs that match or improve original appearances and offer the advantages of today's advanced, decay-proof materials.
It's never too early to be proactive when you're thinking about putting your house on the market. That means you're about to be inundated by "helpful" suggestions and "must-do" recommendations from realtors, friends and family. Change this! Upgrade that! Rip that out! Put this in! Our Make Ready For Market service is designed to help you navigate the process of preparing your house and feel good about your choices as seamlessly -- and affordably -- as possible. All without a major amount of stress. Here's how it works: We'll walk through the home with you and assess together the Visual Impact and Physical Condition of the rooms and features of the home.
You'll only pay for the time we are involved. WE continue to make the major decisions. And we do all the grunt work: Scheduling. Contacting your subs. And doing all the little tiny time consuming things you wished you had time for. We report directly to you. You write the checks to the subs once they have demonstrated that they have properly completed their assignments. The bottom line: Results at a lower cost that you might pay going the traditional route.

This renovation was our first done by a professional and I had very specific ideas of how I envisioned the space to turn out. Moving walls and doorways, closets and plumbing, adding storage to use every inch available, Steve listened, saw my vision where as another contractor we interviewed, did not or could not. Our space, now complete, appears to have always been like this.
Absolutely beautiful and functional and keeping with the style of our 1970's mid modern home, also adding built ins giving our home a bit of Frank Loyd Wright vibe, we are completely satisfied. Thanks Steve, we look forward to doing future projects with you!

We hired Steve to repair a section of our wrap around porch and front steps, both of which had been badly water damaged. They were warped, brittle, and were becoming unsafe to walk on. When he came to give us an estimate, he was great about explaining our options and was very considerate of our budget. He completed the job all by himself in just two days while my husband and I were at work.
He took the time to explain to both of us exactly what he did, why, and even gave us insight into the history of our home based on the age and types of wood he found. We are extremely happy with the job he did, will certainly be using him for future projects, and have already recommended him to several friends.

Living in a home built in the 1880s is a labor of love and has its challenges. We recently needed to have our walk-up attic stairs changed to include winder stair at a 90 degree turn to gain privacy for the bathroom on the second floor. We were looking for someone to finish the odd shaped treads, finish the stair walls before moving on to complete the 1920's bathroom.
All of this in keeping with the historical aspects of a Folk Victorian house. Steve at All Square Carpentry has been very knowledgeable to work with. Treads were beautifully matched with the same wide grain Southern yellow pine on the existing treads. They should finish up beautifully. I appreciate his excellent suggestions/cautions so far as we move forward to working on the bathroom.

Steve helped us with a small but very complex project. We purchased a large antique piece for a bedroom via internet auction. We were told the piece was 96 inches tall. Our ceilings are 96 inches tall so this was going to be a tight fit. We had the auction house measure the piece several times and we were assured that it was 96 inches tall. When we tried to move it into the bedroom it would not fit.
It was actually 96 1/2 inches tall. The piece had a hand carved ornate top. What to do? We called Steve. Our plan was to carve 1/2 inch off the legs of the piece. Steve helped us solve the problem! He brought creativity and ingenuity to our project. He explained that there was a better way to fix this than cutting a beautiful antique. Steve made a small opening in the bedroom ceiling and fabricated a beautiful mini tray ceiling to accommodate the top of our antique.
It looks fantastic! He provided a unique and very creative solution to our complex problem. He is an absolute pleasure to work with. The workmanship is outstanding! I would rate All Square and Steve 11 out of 10!

Steve came to our home and took care of a checklist of items that have been waiting for attention for a long time. Some projects bigger than others, but he completed them all with the highest quality and timely. He is very professional and it was a pleasure to have him here. We would highly recommend him to everybody for any project big or small.

Steve and his crew were very accommodating to my need for work to get my prior house ready for relisting. The scope of work was smallish, but of the type I didn't trust to less experienced hands. As it was a one day job, he was able to squeeze me in, for my part I was able to be flexible on the day and timing, so it all worked out in the end. The work was done very professionally, and at a very reasonable price If it comes to the point where I need work on the new house, I'll be looking him up.

Steve has worked with me on my 1850's farmhouse for several years now restoring and repairing it. We started with a basic bathroom renovation which expanded dramatically as his creativity and talent inspired my own design hopes. He is a Master Carpenter; he has the skills and knowledge to back it up and proves it with every challenge I've presented him with. Steve has studied the finest elements of the trade and appreciates traditional practices, rather than applying a "slap-dash" approach to a project.
In short, his work meets my very high standards time after time. In brief, his scope extends beyond advanced carpentry: He has, Cut and installed delicate glass and Cararra tile perfectly Consulted on the importation of an antique leaded-glass door, totally refurbished it and designed its unique installation Pickled a disaster of a floor by hand Milled custom replacement parts for the decorative columns around my property Turned a flat roof into an outdoor gathering space with a custom handmade door and set of stairs, no-maintenance railings and teak flooring Restored exposed hand-hewn chestnut beams in the house Discovered and repointed an antique brick chimney that is now a focal point of two rooms And reworked yet another bathroom on a dime!
I could go on. My point is that he is not your "average" contractor. (He also works well with all necessary trades and has great contacts.) I have found Steve to always be responsive and communicate clearly in every manner. His billing was perfectly timely and orderly. Importantly, of course, I believe his pricing is fair. He is registered with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs and is insured (I checked all this).
But he is just a good, honest, neighborly guy. When you are fortunate enough to find a talented tradesman like Steve, you hold on to him! And who am I to know? I am a Wharton grad; used to co-own a real estate management company on L.I.; was the Senior Management Accountant for Hines/Morgan Stanley's Times Square properties; and the Asset Mgr/Analyst Hines/CalPers.
My point is that I have a TON of experience with real estate contractors! You would be crazy not to hire All Square Carpentry. But that's okay if don't. More time for him to work on my property!;-)

Steve was the most responsive, helpful and supportive of the various contractors I had to hire in order to address all wood-related issues raised in a buyer's home inspection during the sale of my 150+ year-old wooden home. Under tight timelines he fixed everything that needed to be fixed with excellent craftsmanship, always trying to keep my cost as low as reasonably possible without jeopardizing the quality of the end result.
In addition, Steve wrote expert statements that enabled me to successfully argue that several "issues" raised in the inspection report were testimony to the home inspector's lack of knowledge about older homes rather than true structural problems. It was a pleasure working with Steve and in case of need I would contract him again in a heartbeat!

We hired Steve for a number of projects around our home. Most recently, he built me a custom made island for our kitchen. He completed the job timely and finished slightly under budget. My wife loves the island, happy wife happy life! Steve was easily accessible and very responsive to the questions and various change orders we put it. Customer service is clearly a priority for Steve, so we will be using him again. He also did a great job on our crown molding too!

About 2 mo ago, Steve from All Square Carpentry NJ came to look at my project telling me it's going to be 2 mo before he can start. I agreed to wait providing he will do the job. During that time, I requested for estimate breakdowns and references. Each question takes him many days or over a week to reply. Many times, his answer does not reply to the question.
After a month and half gone by, I received an email indicating that he was not going to do my project any more. I am not sure if he is so full of himself that asking estimate detail and reference is too much for him or he simply found another simple and lucrative job to replace mine, drop my project after 1.5 mo of waiting is the most unprofessional act.
I will not recommend him to anyone simply he can put you in such terrible situation and he does not care. PS, there is another Steve from All Square Carpentry in England with many good reviews. They are not the same person.
