Tugalo Gas Company Inc. was founded in 1946 in Toccoa, GA, by Mr. Edward Gilmer, Sr. The company continues to be family owned and operated, and has grown to five offices in three states (NE Georgia, NW South Carolina, and SW North Carolina). We are often asked what the name "Tugalo" means, and if you are interested in some trivia, consider this: The word "TUGALO" is derived from the name of an early Cherokee settlement called DUGILUYI which means "fork of a stream", "water rolling over rocks", "dark water", or "muddy water', depending on your source.
Millions worldwide are using propane to make their lives more comfortable because compared to other sources of energy, the advantages of propane are tough to beat. Compared to gasoline, propane yields 12 percent less carbon dioxide, about 20 percent less nitrous oxide, and as much as 60 percent less carbon monoxide.
Propane is a hydrocarbon (C3H8) and is sometimes referred to as liquefied petroleum gas, LP-gas or LPG. Propane is produced from both natural gas processing and crude oil refining, in roughly equal amounts. It is nontoxic, colorless and virtually odorless. As with natural gas, a strong identifying odor is added so the gas can be readily detected.
