The Jones family has a long history in Bedford County Virginia traceable back to Captain Tandy Jones who was a road master for the railroad during the middle 1800's. His son Joel farmed the land of which is part of today's family farm in Thaxton, Virginia. Ernest the son of Joel, bought the farm from his mother Sarah Virginia and a few years later in 1946 purchased the first bulldozer owned in Bedford County, Virginia. Even before primary school James Jones, Jr. traveled with his father James Sr. and grandfather Ernest from Virginia to Missouri.

James Jones & Associates. He did absolute sub-par work on our property. He did NOT put the culvert in correctly, he overcharged us for hrs, he shorted us on several loads of rock, he is an absolute crooked contractor! His work ethic are anything but professional. driveway clearing, housesite (1600sqft) clearing, septic field clearing. took a total of 46 hours however, it took him 32 DAYS!
He left 2 huge trees in the septic field that we will have to remove ourselves! He dumped a dog on our property. He charged us $4,500 more than the estimate! This dude is a crooked contractor! He employs a guy that's on disability (paying under the table). His employee told us he was being forced to work because he rents a house from James & James threatened to kick him out if he didn't help with our job!
He talks way TOO much about nothing! He tries to say what a good Christian man he is. but he acts righteous & ungodly! He thinks he is the smartest person in this county & doesn't mind telling anyone who's willing to listen to him. He let his contractor license lapse while on our job, he let his class C license lapse on our job, he claimed to go over state bridges "way overloaded ", his contracts are anything but clear!
Have an attorney go over the contract if for some reason you decide to hire this jerk! WE ARE VERY DISSATISFIED with his work, his ethics & quite frankly just him as a person. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS CLOWN! He charged us $65/hr for a guy he pays $10/hr, he charged us $100/hr for his 18yr old son whom has had his driver's license for a whole 6mths.
He charged us $137.50/day travel each and EVERY trip to the job instead of being charged on days they were actually moving equipment! One day he drove out to the site & worked 1 hr. repairing his equipment! He charged us $137.50 for travel, $170/hr for himself, $100/hr for his son, & $65/hr for his laborer. $472.50 was charged to us for 1 hr total of work for him to go out to fix his own equipment! Please be aware that you are being warned what type of guy this is!

Mr. Jones was very professional and knowledgeable about Bedford Co. rules and regulations and obtaining permits. He helped me tremendously in my ordeal. If their were something that he couldn't do for you he would Refer you to someone who could help, and be there to see you through. He is a man to respect and of honor. He has a Conscience and pride about his work. I truly want to thank him for all his help.

I worked for him very briefly. He seems like he is a good guy when it comes to his job and his customers but I only gave him 3 stars because he definitely doesn't treat his employees the same way. I would have been homeless right before Christmas with my 2 dogs had I depended on him. He promised a bunch of stuff and then just cut contact. Plus he did give me a few rides but that made up for being way under paid. He actually needs someone to work for him or otherwise I would have understood not wanting to take someone on in the slow season.
