We used Andrew for several different jobs. He is always on time and provides the best service and care. Andrew is very responsible and very knowledgeable. I am very happy to recommend Andy Payne and Benchmark Builders. We bought a house in North Stamford that needed many small improvements and a remodeled powder room--all on a tight timetable--since our lease in Norwalk was running out. Even though our job was small, Andy was very conscientious and met the end date a day early. The jobs involved four different trades (painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing) and their schedules were managed really well.

When an old pipe started to leak, Andy was there with the plumber to make an emergency repair. Andy was great at keeping in touch through the process, sending pictures or videos if we could not be there. His contracts are clear and very professional, too. Andy also has a good design eye and is a great sounding board when making decisions. We feel we got real value and high quality.

Andy Payne and his team are highly talented and great to work with. They replaced the deck, installed a new roof, and replaced inside flooring at our family home. We appreciated Andy's detailed advice and help with decision making throughout the process.

I recently bought a house that had significant wood rot on the sunporch caused by old gutters and a poor deck design. I called Andy and he came up with a great plan to fix the wood, redesign the deck and gutters as well as waterproof everything so this would never happen again. The work was done on time and with a high level of craftsmanship. I would highly recommend Benchmark Builders. If you need a carpenter who can really think outside of the box and come up with solutions to potentially tricky repairs Andy is your guy. Great work!

We were introduced to Andy shortly after we moved into our new home right in the middle of COVID. We were looking for help installing an Azek railing system on the steps leading to the front of our house. Once he scoped out the project I showed him a number of other smaller projects (replacing/installing doors, installing indoor railing) that we were thinking about doing and he said he would be happy to do them. Andy and his crew did an excellent job. We will definitely hire him again for our next project and would refer him to anyone looking for carpentry work.

We had Andy renovate our basement and he executed our vision perfectly. He was also to coordinate all vendors and was very easily to communicate with and work with. He always made sure we were happy. Our staircase was very old, unstable and too short for modern safety. Andrew was quick to get me a quote and he kindly added in some small jobs around the house. He did a great job on the stairs and even gave us some small hardware from his own old house to match our antique doors. I would definitely recommend! We loved working with Andy and his team. He did a remodeling of our downstairs hallway which included opening up 5 doorways, taking out a closet, raising a ceiling, and installing French doors. The result was transformative and looks better than I imagined. Andy was always transparent about costs as we added different things/changed things during the remodel. We plan on using Andy again to do a similar project in another part of the house. I would highly recommend him.

We chose Andy to complete a very special and unusual project for us; A yoga platform in our backyard. When I spoke to other contractors before finding Andy I was always disappointed by their lack of imagination. They seemed to think it was a crazy idea and were only interested in telling me the potential problems with the project. But with Andy, he was immediately engaged and interested.

He helped me find creative solutions to any obstacles that arose and was always very responsive to any questions or concerns that I had. We chose Benchmark Builders to oversee a gut renovation of our home in 2015. We chose Andy over 4 other contractors because his bid was the most thorough and detailed of the contractors who came through. The extra work he put in during the bidding process avoided surprises during the project and kept our project on schedule (we actually finished 6 weeks early!) and on budget. Andy worked hand in hand with our architect to ensure our design was followed correctly and coordinated as required with subcontractors.

His strong working relationship with his subcontractors ensured we did not have any no show days or lost work. The various trades were always on site when needed and knew what work needed to be done before they were on site. Andy is the best contractor I've worked with and would recommend him to anyone without reservation.

Last winter we began the process of tearing down a porch and creating a four-season sunroom addition to our home. After meeting with four different contractors we settled on Andy Payne with Benchmark Builders. His professionalism during the review process was unmatched, and his earnestness to design exactly what we wanted was a refreshing change. As the actual project began I was immediately at ease with his absolute consideration of our living space, especially since we have younger children.

He remained true to the agreed upon schedule, worked with incredibly respectful sub-contractors, offered insight and suggestions as appropriate and delivered a beautifully crafted addition to our home that we will enjoy for years.
