From a one van heating and air conditioning shop, he expanded into the electrical and plumbing business. In the '80s, John Shekell took their service one step further into the future by acquiring George Koch Sons' service center. This purchase made Shekell the biggest HVAC service firm in the tri-state area.

We have been customers of J E Shekell, Inc. for 21 years. Their heating and cooling technicians, their office, and service department have always been polite, very knowledgeable, timely, and curious. I used their electrical services, HVAC maintenance services, and plumbing services. Electrical: Eric was very professional, pleasant, got the job done and answered all of my questions. I would be happy to have Eric work on any other electrical problem in our house. HVAC maintenance: We had Marco and Ron perform regular furnace and AC maintenance. Both were very thorough in their inspection, communicated extremely well to me, gave very useful suggestions and Ron in particular just recently helped significantly improve our AC's performance.
I highly recommend both Ron and Marco for HVAC maintenance. HVAC: I asked this company to come and install a dryer vent and they said they do not do this kind of work (that was a surprise). Plumbing: I had a leak inside a wall and the plumber we were assigned did not seem interested to work on investigating the leak. Essentially, what I got from him was what I already knew before he came, that I had a leak in the wall.
I then called a different plumbing company and their plumber did a thorough investigation and gave me much more useful information about moving on fixing the leak. I do not recommend their plumbing services.

I have used this business for several years in regard to my air conditioning/heating system. I find them very professional and reasonably priced. I trust their recommendations and will recommend them to my friends and family. I recently had maintenance on my unit and the service representative Rick was very informative and attentive to my needs. I will continue to use this company in the future. Also it was a nice touch that I was called and asked about my service.

They have been out to work on our AC last summer and our furnace today. Darrin Eaton is very professional, courteous, knowledgeable and explains the problem in a way that can be easily understood. He even discovered, without me asking him to check, that the part for our furnace was still under warranty so the bill was less than he had originally told me. Don't mind paying for a service call when you get the service that they / he provides.

Great and professional service from beginning to end! This is not the 1st time I have used their services but it is the 1st time leaving a review. Whomever answers the phone is efficient and gets you immediately to the correct person/dept. Herb, the dispatcher, who takes down your needs and schedules the service is friendly, knowledgeable and has a great personality.
Every service tech has been on time, professional and did the job right the first time. I can call out Marco as one of the best servicemen and he is usually the one dispatched for to my residence, which is nice to have a friendly face in your home. I give Marco 5 stars and I recommend J.E. Shekell to anyone who asks.

Came home to find my AC condenser unit was running but no cold air was coming into my house on a 90+ degree afternoon! It was already over 80 degrees inside and I was dreading a long, hot wait for service. Darrin arrived at my house less than 2 hours later and was able to make a repair that got my AC running again! Came first thing the following day to install a new part and make sure everything was running smoothly.
I can't thank him and the service department enough for the quick response and terrific, professional work. I've been a customer for over 20 years and they have earned my loyalty!

This company has taken care of our plumbing, air and heat since they have been in town. I would never call anyone else. Let's face it, plumbing and heating is expensive but Their prices are competitive and their response and service is better than any heat/plumb/ air company I have ever called. I highly recommend them.

I was told the cost of a plumbing visit would be $135 for the first hour and $90 per hour after that. I agreed. The plumber completed my projects in less than an hour but I was charged for an hour and a half of work. He said I had to pay for his travel time from the J.E. Shekell office to my home. Per Google that was 9 minutes. I called the J.E. Shekell office. The billing person confirmed I had to pay the additional cost. I feel the quote was deceptive. I will not use J.E. Shekell again.

Made an appt on Monday (Aug 10th) to have "Tony" come to the house for an estimate- looking to replace 2 fuse boxes with breaker panels. They told me Friday, Aug 14th at 10am, and he would call when he was on his way. I took time off work to be there- only for NO ONE to show up. When I called, I was told "Tony isn't working today. Plus we have had some licensing issues and can't give you an estimate anyway." Seriously? They couldn't call to let me know this? Poor customer service, and a horrid first impression. I will steer clear of J. E. Shekell.

Very, very disappointed. Had an appointment for today that I made a few weeks ago for an electrician to come to my residence to disconnect the power to my old she'd because I am having it torn down and a new one out up. Called their office this morning to confirm my appointment time. Was told my appointment was still good and they would be there at 3 pm as planned. Took off work early. Waited til nearly 5pm.
No show. So I called the office back and this time the lady on the phone said the supervisor tried to reach me the day before to reschedule my appointment and even had come by my house to try to reach me to reschedule. No way. No one called me. And if anyone came to my home, they did not leave a note of door knocker. And if they did try to reach me to reschedule, why did the lady confirm my appointment when I called this morning?
She told me the supervisor would call me right back. I told her they owe me an after hours service or Saturday service at regular price since they made me take off from work for no reason. But the supervisor has yet to call me back. I highly recommend you go somewhere else for your electrical needs. Customer service at this company is terrible.

95 degrees out, Hot and muggy, a/c suddenly failed. Called them after hours, came right out within about 1 hour as was on another call. Evan(repairman) was pleasant, prompt and had us up and running in hour or less. Had been working for 12 hours but was still polite and helpful. After hours was only $30 extra. Charged diagnostic fee and service call and first hour labor all in one. Charged flat fee for part installed and had on truck. Reasonably priced even after hours.

I had a bad experience dealing with one of their employees so I posted a bad review on their facebook page, soon I see they've rallied other employees to comment on the review I posted calling me expletives. I then get notified that they've contacted my previous employer demanding my phone number (and getting mad when not given that info, surprise), they found me on other social media platforms (twitter, linked in, probably more that I'm not aware of) and sent me messages on those telling me I needed to delete my review.
Also sent me an email saying I was wrong and needed to delete the review. I don't know why and have no clue why this company will not stop bullying me, but I do not recommend their services at all. Unless you want to be bullied and don't expect to be treated with respect. This business is not a kind one.

I have no complaints about the work or reliability of this company. They are however very expensive. Not only do they charge you for the repair, they charge an extra $99.00 on top of the cost of the repair for a "diagnostic fee" which took them all of 2 minutes to determine. So, in spite of not having any complaints about the work itself, I will be seeking an alternative repair service for all future repairs.
